Die hauptsächliche Hypothese des Projekts “Naming IT War” ist erstens, dass Serbien bis in die 90er des letzten Jahrhunderts mehr an Kriegen als an “Militärübungen” oder “bewaffneten Konflikten” beteiligt war. Diese Annahme steht der offiziellen Regierungsposition entgegen, die besagt, dass sich tatsächliche Kriegshandlungen auf die Jahre 1991-92 und die NATO Angriffe von 1999 beschränkten. Zweitens: Kriegsteilnehmer_Innen und Anti-Kriegs-Aktivist_Innen sind bzw. waren Augenzeug_Innen, dass diese Kriege tatsächlich stattfanden. Das Ziel von “Naming IT War” ist es, einen Dialog bzw. eine Kooperation zwischen Kriegsveteran_Innen und Kriegsgegner_Innen entstehen zu lassen, um einen sozialen Diskurs zu forcieren, der die Erfahrungen, der Teilnahme an Kriegen sowie verschiedene Strategien des Aktivismus dagegen, legitimiert. Wir sehen die Politik der Macht, die diese Erfahrungen durch Tabuisierung diskreditiert, als sich selbst illegitimierend, unabhängig von ihren Zielen und der Bewertungen, die in ihrem Namen durchgeführt werden. Das Faktum, dass das Ende der Kriege niemals verlautbart wurde, ist Beweis genug, dass Krieg und Plünderung weitergehen. Genauso, wie die vielen Menschen, die Jugoslawien verlassen haben, verschieden sind, genauso unterschiedlich sind die Einstellungen und Überzeugungen gegenüber dieser Kriege. Wie verbreiten sich die Positionen der Kriegsteilnehmer_Innen, Deserteur_Innen und Anti-Kriegs-Aktivist_Innen außerhalb ihrer Heimatländer in der Gastarbajter-Kultur? Wie ist als Gastarbeiter_Innen ihre Sicht des Krieges und seiner Konsequenzen heute?

The main suppositions of the project Naming IT War are first that Serbia, all through the during the 90’s participated in wars rather than “military drills” or “armed conflicts”. This position opposes the official governmental position that the wars were limited to 1991-92 and the NATO aggression in 1999. And second that war participants and anti-war activists are witnesses that this war took place.

The aim to the project is to establish dialog and cooperation between war participants anti war activists in order to create a societal discourse in which, both participation in the wars as well as various sorts of anti-war activism will become legitimate experiences of which it is necessary to talk.

We consider the politics of power that discredits these experiences through silencing and taboo, is illegitimate in itself, independently of its goals and the measures taken in its name. The fact that the end of the wars was never declared proves that both war and robbery still go on.

Many people have left Yugoslavia and the states that inherited it during the 1990s and 2000s for different reasons, and each person from these countries who was already living abroad had a position towards these wars. How do the positions of war participants, deserters and antiwar activists divulge itself outside their homelands in the gastarbajters culture?  How do they interact with culture in Vienna? How do Austrians react to veterans of wars that are not Austrian wars and what do they know about the involvement of their countryman in these wars?
